When should you use the "EU permanent residence" residence permit?
The “EU permanent residence” residence permit is particularly relevant for people who have been in Austria continuously for five years and wish to stay there long-term. Compared to other residence permits, such as the Red-White-Red Card, the requirements are stricter.
Former holders of an EU Blue Card from other EU countries are subject to less stringent conditions, as parts of the previous period of residence can be taken into account. In addition to proof of uninterrupted residence in Austria, applicants must fulfill Module 2 of the Integration Agreement, which includes German language skills at B1 level and comprehensive knowledge of the Austrian legal and social system.
Applicants for EU permanent residence must also prove that they are able to support themselves and their dependents, have health insurance and are entitled to suitable accommodation.
